The Simpsons S1 - S5 Couch Gags

I chose to use this clip of the opening of The Simpsons because it shows you some of the variety of different openings for the show. I think they changed the opening for almost every episode of the programme because it kept the viewers interested and it gave you an insight into what was going to be shown in that episode.

I also chose to show The Simpsons opening sequence because even though The Simpsons is a cartoon its more for older people and is loved by many ages, this means that it gains more viewers and is loved by families. Furthermore, its viewed on a variety of well known and popular channels such as: Sky 1, Sky 1 HD and Channel 4.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S - Opening Season 1

I used F.R.I.E.N.D.S because firstly, its one of my favorite programmes. Secondly, the theme song by The Rembrandts- I'll Be There for You is extremely catchy and anyone who hears it knows that its the F.R.I.E,N,D.S theme tune.

Also the lyrics in the theme song imply that they're all a group of friends who'll be there for each other. Also the sequence shows that its a comedy by the dancing and falling in the fountain etc. Basically, about a group of friends just having fun.

The Big Bang Theory

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

The whole programme is basically a comedy about a group of scientists which links in with the name of the programme and also the opening sequence and the lyrics in the opening sequence (which are shown above).

The opening sequence barely shows the characters which is different in comparison to the other opening sequences I've looked at but also quite unusual because the programme is mainly about the characters. I think they did this to show that the characters life is all about science.

My logo for Silver lining productions

My Silver Lining Productions logo

I chose to do my logo design like this because I thought that it goes with the quote “every cloud has a silver lining”. The way I pictured it was that my channel is the silver lining to your tv guide as its interesting and unique compared to all the other dull tv channels that show the same thing.

I did my text this way as the colour silver goes with the name which shows consistency and I chose to use this font as its easy to read and its simple. I chose to have the font mainly in non caps because as its a well known company I didn't really feel the need to make it bold and in your face.

The font being joined together represents the fact that the company is put together but also that the programmes that are shown connect to the viewers that are watching.

Response to a commercial in class

The ad we were shown in class was very effective, because it used different approach to advertise make up. Usually, they use a woman with flawless skin but they used a woman with markings on her face which may suggest the woman is in an abusive relationship. I found this quite shocking as usually the ads on TV about abuse its telling people to get help however this ad is telling you to cover up the evidence. Like the woman in the ad is trying to cover up her scary past, forget about it and have a clean start.

Logo research

Research for logos of TV companies

BBC stands for British Broadcasting Corporation. Meaning that by having it in the name of the company. It shows that they're proud to be British and also that the shows that they broadcast reflect the nations, regions and diverse communities in which we live in. The colours black and white shows that the company is an old classic and its been around since the TVs were in black and white. The squares being close together shows that there are no adverts which will be favorable to viewers but it also indicates that the programmes broadcasted are fast-paced and never stopping.

I think that its called Dave because Dave is a common name, meaning that its well loved so it shows that the channel may be well loved by its viewers. And also that the programmes they show are well loved too.

This is the repeat (+1) channel of the channel Dave but instead of calling it Dave +1 they've cleverly called it Dave ja vu instead. They've added a bit of humor and also they've made it more memorable for the viewers. Aside from the fact that they've played around with the wording and saying that because its the repeat channel meaning that whats been showed has been seen before, they've used "ja vu" which is french which may indicate that there's a wide variety of shows and not just one type. They've used the same font and colours to be cohesive.

Itv's logo is quite different from the other logos that I've used for my research so far. This is because firstly this logo is in bright colours which indicates that the company stands out from the rest and also that as there is a wide variety of colours, there is a wide variety of shows, However, as the top part of the "t" is black it indicates that even though there's new shows that are broadcasted there will always be the classics that everyone loves. Furthermore, the letters are joined together as even though a lot of the shows are different they all link together.

This logo shows that firstly it brings parents and children together as it has the outline of a parent and a child. It clearly represents the company as it has "nick jr" on the adult and the child but the "jr" quite rightly is on the child. They've used the bright colours as it indicates that its a kids channel but also it may indicate that if your child watches this channel it may have a bright future and will become brighter as some of the programmes on there are fun but also slightly educational.

The cartoon network logo is in black and white as it shows that the old classic programmes (like powerpuff girls) that we watched when we were younger are still being shown today. It also shows that the programmes are simple and easy to enjoy. They've used the initials of cartoon network as its easy to remember and recognisable, Its called it Cartoon Network because this is where all the cartoons are shown.
